RE: The system works...

I once had a guy try to sell my UG2-V16 CDs. I told him he had no leagla right to sell them and he insisted he did. I asked about license files to run the software with and he said he could get them. I just laughed and told him to stuff his illegal CDs where the sun doesn't shine.

@schellenbergj you'd be surprised. I work for the Australian reseller and we see a few companies using pirated licenses every year.

I was in Singapore once when AutoDesk and the BSA, along with a dozen police officers, raided the largest architectural firm in the country. It caused quite a scandal at the time being how Singapore has always had such a reputation as a 'law & order' sort of place.

Not condoning anything with my comments nor laying blame at anyone's doorstep, just making an observation.

John Baker might not be, but most of you would be surprised how easy it is to get your hands on pirated software, particularly the more high-end types and how many softwares are in fact pirated somehow. I've heard claims that Asian automotive suppliers can be notorious users of pirated CAD software. Seems that this day and age people will do anything to save a buck - and that's not just limted to the end users, the suppliers of products and services as well.

Note that I've visited the 'markets' in places like Jakarta where they sell a lot more than just knock-off Rolex's and Louis Vuitton handbags. And I was there for 'official', albeit low-key, business reasons. Sometimes it was just as revealing as to what brands and types of 'products' were NOT available as those that were.
