variable depth of cut N X8.5

variable depth of cut N X8.5

Hi everyone,

I'm want to mill a slim part in a hard-to-machine material, an i'm trying to create a toolpath for finishing operation with NX8.5
I'd like to create a 5 axis toolpath but with varibale depth of cut. Has anybody done anything similar?
I want to be able to define the depth of cut (DOC) along my toolpath (for example, DOC 3 mm at the beginning of the step and finish with a DOC of 1 mm, and it must go decreasing the DOC lineally between both of them).

I've seen that there are many expert users of NX in this forum, so I would be really grateful for any help you could give me.

Thanks a lot,

RE: variable depth of cut N X8.5

What your looking for is variable-axis roughing, something that is not currently available in NX.
What you can do is create several operation using different stock values for each cut.
There is an option for multiple depths of cut on the cut parameters dialog but these are a fixed depth.

If someone has other options I would be interested in hearing about them.

Can you post a picture of the kind of path you are looking for?

well, I've submitted my post before finishing with it...

I'm looking for something similar to the picture attached in the previous post, but in 5 axis.
I think that joycejo understood correctly what I meant. The ideal situation would be to control the depth of cut with an user-defined equation.

The aim is to have a toolpath with a constant stepover but user-controlled depth of cut in 5 axis, in order to imitate the toolpath I show in the attached picture in this post. The difference would be that I want in milling and not turning.

thanks,
