Pneumatic Cylinder Noise Pollution

Pneumatic Cylinder Noise Pollution

Pneumatic Cylinder Noise Pollution

(OP)
Hey guys,

Does someone have an idea what the level of noise pollution of a cylinder (40mm bore at 0.55MPa) during actuation in decibels?
It would be appreciated if you could provide a source along with your number.

Many thanks!

RE: Pneumatic Cylinder Noise Pollution

Pneumatic or hydraulic?

Cylinders don't make noise. Moving air or oil makes noise. I could assemble a system you could barely hear, or one that loudly announces its movement. It's all in the air control. And its not just in the cylinders. Its also in the valves, the flow controls, the pressure regulators, etc. So its all in the skill and knowledge of the designer and the builder.

The system is pneumatic. That makes a lot of sense actually. I have a value that the company has found experimentally for noise pollution in a closed environment but I assumed that it was from piston actuation and not from leakages at valves and joints.

Thanks for the reply, you have answered my question!

RE: Pneumatic Cylinder Noise Pollution

Venting air exhaust is noisy. Mufflers/silencers are available to reduce the exhaust sound level.

RE: Pneumatic Cylinder Noise Pollution

If you have no speed control or end cushion then often there is noise from the piston or the payload smacking an end stop.

Currently, our pistons do not use end cushions or speed control so that makes sense that those are also factors.
