Fire Protection Spray Rings on Tanks

Fire Protection Spray Rings on Tanks

(OP)
My Friends,

We are building some new plants in the USA Gulf Coast which will require many tanks of all sizes. I am asked to get some information to use as guidence on the use of spray rings as fixed fire protection. In some newer plants I have worked on elsewhere, the local site standard required fire protection rings on all tanks containing hazardous material- i.e. flammable liquids. The purose is to cool the tanks in the event of an adjacent fire to limit vaporization of the tank contents. It seems like a good idea, but this US Gulf Coast site does not have such a standard, and has not built many new units recently.

Any advice, reference, or opinion will be helpful.

best wishes,
sshep

Take a look at the NFPA Regulations.

Suggest that you re-post on the "Storage Tank Engineering" Forum

I believe that you want to consult API-2030-" Guidelines for Application of Water Spray Systems for Fire Protection in the Petroleum Industry"
for specific details...

Additional spray ring design information here:

Give us more details of your particular situation...

Please also tell us about your final design and why you came to your conclusions.......
