Hello

can large, low pressure, vertical storage tanks be disgned according to ASME VIII ? if the answer is yes, which paragraphe is it ?

thank you in advance !!

RE: can ASME VIII design large, low pressure vertical storage tanks ?

It doesn't have provisions for flat bottoms supported on a foundation, and doesn't have provisions for structurally-supported roofs. It might also be overly conservative in the design of self-supporting cone or dome roofs.

Generally, if the pressure is less than 15 psi, then API-620 would be used, or if less than 2.5 psi, then API-650 would be used.

need more info on the tank.....depending on the pressure one can use some of design methods that are in the ASME but with lower FS.....
