Triangular load distribution on cylinder

Triangular load distribution on cylinder

Triangular load distribution on cylinder

(OP)
Hi There. I am relatively new to Abaqus. I have a cylindrical tube (OD = 2 in. ID = 1.5 in.)and I am trying to apply a 10 kip load as pressure on once face of a cylinder following a triangular distributed load distribution. What I did is I tried to get my load equation, I looked at the cylinder from a 2D perspective and assumed my distribution to be as below:

| |<------ At x = 2 in., w = 0.5 x (10 kip x 2 in.) = 10 kip/in
| |<-----
| |<----
| |<---
| |<--
| |<- At x = 0 in., w = 0 kip/in

In Abaqus, I created a rectangular CSYS with the x-axis along the direction of the diameter of the cylinder and defined an analytical field with a load function: w(x) = 10*(x/2) = 5*x

The cylinder has an OD = 2.0 in., ID = 1.5 in. Area = 1.37445 in^2

When I apply the load as pressure, do I put the magnitude as just P = 1/(Area) = 0.727565

I tried getting the reaction and it doesn't match the load I applied. I fixed the other end of the cylinder. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
