Residual stresses from welding

Residual stresses from welding

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I have just general question to You. Is is any possible to insert residual stresses from welding, which I have from measurment the specimens in any model?
I know that there are 3D, but any simpliefied shape of residual stress? How to check equilibrium?

Take care,
Aga

RE: Residual stresses from welding

Aga,
You could try using the UTEMP user subroutine in a model to provide a final temperature distribution and so impose a simulated welding residual stress field. Adjust the UTEMP in order to achieve a reasonable match to your measured profile. However, you'll never get a perfect match; but it might be close enough for the purposes of your FE simulation.
