(OP)
Good morning all,
there is a question regarding "limits of a pressure vessel" with welded nozzle (not flanged with the piping)
according to paragraph U-1(e) should be to the next circumferential weld but a collegue
ask how to solve the question if there is an elbow inserted to the vessel?

Have to consider the elbow part of the vessel or no? and more how to calculate the thickness of this kind of branch?

Thank you for help.

Gio

RE: ASME VIII D1 & D2

If the elbow is inserted through the pressure boundary, yes, it is part of the pressure vessel.

RE: ASME VIII D1 & D2

Reinforcement calculations shall be performed in accordance with all applicable requirements of UG-36 through UG-45. Consider the elbow as a pipe/nozzle neck while performing reinforcement calcs. Please see UG-40(d)(2) when calculating area A2 and/or A3. It would be intersting if bend portion of the elbow falls in the limit of reinforcement. Conservatively I shall consider onlt staright portion of the elbow when calculating the area A2 and/or A3.
