Hi All,

please share your thought and opinions as follows:

1) what is the strictest code and standard for designing and constructing underground / buried GRP pipe for big diameter such as 2700 mm (code and standard AWWA M45, Asme section b31.3 non metallic pipe, or BS 7159), any summary of the difference of the code and standard?

2) for GRP diamter 2700 mm, at some nodes/locations it is suspected to have actual stress more than the allowable value, it is suggested to add expansion joints but from the operation view point it is difficult to install exp. joint since the plants must be shutdown and this affect huge cost of revenue. Can I use strain gauge to check the expansion condition and monitor the status of the stress before taking the decision to install exp. joints, is the strain gauge is effective with this big diameter of pipe add GRP pipe material.

3). referring to AWWS M45, is the formula for calculating buckling pressure against live load and wall buckling are same?
