Digital potentiometer

Digital potentiometer

Digital potentiometer

(OP)
Hi,
Is it possible that a digital potentiometer can serve as a feed back element in a frequency to voltage converter loop. I do convert the Analog signal(5v) from the F/V in to a digital one through a comparator (the other input is from a high precision voltage reference of 5v). Can u make a suggestion about this.
Thanks in advance for your inspiring replies,
Senthil

RE: Digital potentiometer

Your problem isn't very clear.  What do you wish to do with the digital pot?  Use it as a divider, or part of a divider to feed a signal back to your comparator?

yea it is a divider the adjust the frequency, but the feed back is not the comparator instead to the F/V converter.
Thanks
Senthil

RE: Digital potentiometer

Hi Senthil,

I can't say I understand quite hoe you propose to use the device, but you can certainly use a digital pot as a voltage divider as long as you stay within the voltage and current restrictions of the device.

Good luck,

Bruce

RE: Digital potentiometer

Do note that if your application involves high frequency or other reactive circuitry, the digital potentiometer is not strictly a variable resistor and can produce odd effects.

RE: Digital potentiometer

The dig.pot is just a D/A converter -- so it can be used in feedback. It may have memory or counter -- which may
emulate an integrator.
