trying to understand the term "squareness"

trying to understand the term "squareness"

trying to understand the term "squareness"

(OP)
hello - i have a situation here at our company where someone is trying to convince me that the the term "squareness" for the checking of a rail face attached to a post
mounted to a base which in turn is mounted to a flat housing is not being taken into account for the completed assembly at the point of inspection -
the rail mounted to the post is held both perpendicular & parallel to the slot in the post - the base of the post is held also to the machined rail slot -
the flat housing is machined w/ very tight tol. dowel pins to locate the completed post/rail assembly to the housing -
the only time the rail face is inspected is when the entire assembly is complete & the roller assembly rides on the rail face - then the
rails are checked for paralleisum/perpendicularity to the flat housing -
the persons contention is that at that point of the assembly you cannot have any "squareness" of the rail face to the flat housing due to it consisting of 3 different parts
now assembled together - i believe what the person is meaning to say is that the rail face is not "perpendicular" to the flat housing -
i know this is difficult to see so i will try to post a sketch later - my belief is that inorder to change this assembly & get the "squareness" this person wants is to
make a fixture for the post to the housing, indicate the perpendicularity of the rail face w/ respect to the top of the housing & then pin it -
any info or suggestions would be appreciated - thank you

It seems to me that you have initially a communication problem.

You and the person seem to want to achieve the same goal, and he seems to have some thoughts about how to achieve the goal.

So why turn to the internet to seek the correct definition of a word that may or may not describe the goal or the problem.

Go sit down with the person and achieve understanding.
