NX85 - Add Component is by default Non-Geometric ?

NX85 - Add Component is by default Non-Geometric ?

NX85 - Add Component is by default Non-Geometric ?

(OP)
Just started with NX85.
While adding a component to an assembly it appears by default to be in a Non-Geometric state...
Is there somewhere a setting to change that behavior ?

RE: NX85 - Add Component is by default Non-Geometric ?

I can't see how that's possible. There are NO Customer Defaults that covers this behavior nor are there any Preferences which would be saved in either a part file or your session. The only why to set a Component to be 'non-geometric' is to explicitly set that option while selecting s Component in the context of an Assembly. Note that that setting will ONLY be in effect for THAT particualr Assembly and if you to save the Component this option will NOT be saved with the Component part so that if the Component is added to a different Assembly and even if you wanted it to be 'non-geometric' there you will have to explicitly edit it again to toggle this option ON. Even if I set a Component to be 'non-geometric', then save that Component and then add a second instance of that exact same Component, it will NOT come in set to be 'non-geometric, you have to again explicitly edit this particular instance to be 'non-geometric' as there appears to be no where that this option is being remembered.

So the bottom line is, I have NO idea how you could possibly be seeing this behavior, unless the components are being placed using some sort of journal or NX Open application where someone has modified this behavior on the fly.

Hello John,

After a little investigation it appears that some of the components that have a "DB_UNITS" attribute with a set value follow that behavior of being added as "Non Geometric". GTAC explains that also as a "by design" intent on that NX version...

Since I am just testing some of our .NET programs in Native mode and that attribute is set blank in our Teamcenter production mode the plroblem is solved!

Thank you.
D.

Yes, I forgot about the fact that you could have an Attribute on the Component either by adding it manually or it being imposed by the PDM system, in your case Teamcenter.
