Correct me if I'm wrong but in regards to AWS D1.3 if you can weld 12 gauge steel to a 1/2" steel embed plate then you are qualified to weld anything thinner than 12 gauge (14,16,18,20 etc.)....

Also, if you can weld that 12 gauge to the 1/2" steel embed plate then you are qualified to weld 12 gauge to 3/8",1/4" etc...
