Selective Sectioning in Modeling View

Selective Sectioning in Modeling View

I'm running NX-8.5 on Windows 7, and I have an engine assembly that I'm taking screenshots of for a presentation. Is there a way I can use the Clip Work Section tool to cut away the block while leaving the rest of the components unsectioned? I know how to do it in Drafting, but not in the Modeling view. Thanks!

RE: Selective Sectioning in Modeling View

PMI section view is the usual answer to this question. Do you have a PMI license?

It appears so, the toolbar pops up when I click "PMI." Am I looking for "Lightweight Section?"

RE: Selective Sectioning in Modeling View

Okay, I got the section view like I wanted using the "Lightweight Section" function on the PMI toolbar. Now for a stupid question...how do I turn it back off? The section view button is grayed out. Do I just hit "Undo?"

RE: Selective Sectioning in Modeling View

The PMI section created a new view. Right click in the graphics window and replace view to the one you were using previously (or one of the canned views such as TOP).

Ah, I see it. Perfect, thank you!

RE: Selective Sectioning in Modeling View

Hi John,

Now if I want to take a high resolution image, I use High Quality Image command.. I was thinking it will take the pic of the section view, instead it gave me full view of the product..

Is there a way to do it?

RE: Selective Sectioning in Modeling View

About the best that you can do is a 'True Shading' view:

The problem with any of the Model-based, as opposed to view-based, rendering, the sectioned model that you see on the screen is only 'view-dependent', meaning that it ONLY exists as seen in that view. When you render the model using any of the high-quailty software (as opposed to hardware) redndering, all that we use of the view is it's scale, orientation, lights, etc. For the what GETS rendered, we go back to the model itself, which of course is NOT sectioned.

Hi John,

using NX8.5.. is there anyone who have done NX customization of capturing High res image of the section in assembly? Is it not at all possible?

If you have come across or have any piece of journal or NX open file, can you please share it?

RE: Selective Sectioning in Modeling View

Since the 'PMI Section' is view-dependent, you're limited to the resolution of the 'view'. Now if you buy one of those new 4K displays...
