SCOPE OF API 510 - PRESSURE VESSEL

SCOPE OF API 510 - PRESSURE VESSEL

SCOPE OF API 510 - PRESSURE VESSEL

(OP)
Dear All,

How to define either the pressure vessel is under scope of API 510, if documents not complete? on P&ID just mention the working pressure 10 bar, and product is gas. not mention design code, and name plate was missing. when refer to ASME VIII and API 510, the code say, external or internal pressure above 15 psi is under API 510 scope. can I use this for my evidence?

hopefully some one can help me.

Thanks,

Regards,
SHAIFUL

RE: SCOPE OF API 510 - PRESSURE VESSEL

shaiful,
When mentioning evidence, I hope you are not suing your pressure vessel.
You should start with the beginning, telling what do you intend to do to that poor looking pressure vessel. Are you inspecting it, or/and you try to repair it?
The reason to ask is that you mention two diferent standards / codes that are not interchangeable, but merely complementing each other.
The ASME VIII code is for design of new pressure vessels, as opposite the API 510 which is used for inspection, repair and modifications of an existing equipment (pressure vessel).
It all starts with the definition of pressure vessels in ASME VIII Div 1, Clause U-1. It does say that pressure vessels with design pressure above 15 psi are under the scope of ASME VIII Div.1. It does not make however, any reference to API 510 for the definition of pressure vessels.
Please come back with clarifications on what you intend to do and we'll give you proper help.
Cheers,
gr2vessels

RE: SCOPE OF API 510 - PRESSURE VESSEL

Yes, vessels designed and/or operating above 15 psi are "Pressure Vessels" per ASME VIII, and thus API-510. The exact requirements are in the very front of VIII Div-1, part "U". There are a couple of exceptions for small and very small vessels operating at moderate pressures. But if it is over 5 cubic feet and 15 psi, it is a pressure vessel.
