40 year old reciprocating compressor up grading

40 year old reciprocating compressor up grading

(OP)
Hi,

We are going to up-grade reciprocating compressor (40 year old four stage, Ingersoll rand). Originally compressor is designed for zero psig suction for stage one, 35 psig for stage two, 102 psig for stage three and 251 for stage four follow to discharge 655 psig respectively.

For up-grading to 10 psig first stage, other than instrumentation and piping specs what is required and shall need to contact with vendor for his advice.

Thanks

RE: 40 year old reciprocating compressor up grading

Hey 10815,
I think the GPSA manual has an example of a rerate along these lines. What I remember is casing pressure vs design, motor power, and rod loads. This is for screening, then consult compressor vendor if it looks possible.
Best wishes,
sshep
