For regular views you can show them as solid by going to "properties->view->view generation mode" and choosing raster and picking shading under options.

I created a zoomed detail view. When I go to do the same steps, there are no options other than "exact view" under "view generation mode"...

You cannot do it with the Detail view. You can do it only with the other views.

I Believe what Tarthrin wanted to know is if the part can be shown shaded in
2d like you can do in solidworks.

I do know how to show the part shaded. However, when you do a detailed (zoomed) subview there does not seem to be the same option.

may be you can use a quick detail view instead of Detail view ?

The Quick Detail View can be shaded.
