automatic paper size in drafting
(OP)
Hello,
I've made a model in NX 8.5 that I can adjust by parameters. I've placed some views in drafting mode on a A4 size paper. Now i'm wondering, is it possible that when I adjust the parameters and make my model bigger that the drafting takes a A3 size paper? Maybe it is possible to set a range so that when it is between ... and ... it is A4 and when it is greater than that it takes a A3.
Thanks in advance!
Tim

1) create the A4 drawing and add the views, dimeensions and notes to the drawing.
2) Create an A3 drawing on sheet 2, and copy the view to that sheet (the dimensions with come ewith the copied view), also copy the notes over
3) After you adjust your prarmeters look at both sheet 1 (the A4 size) and sheet 2 (the A3 size), then decide which is best for you and delete the one that you do not use.
One more tip:
Do you know that you can adjust the scale of the drawing view via an expression? so when the part grows you may want to make the view scale smaller.

Thanks!

here is something to get you started . . .
The image shows the view syle menu and where the expressions button is
From there you probably want to create an if-then-else statement in the
expression that controls the view scale.
I will try to post an example in a few days.

Who uses stanard view scales these days?
Engineers have the ability to make any scale they want. 51/300, 17/100, 3/10, etc.
<sarcastic note off>
I am glad at least Siemens is defining standard scales in their drawing templates. I get so tired of telling the designers I work with that those are standard scales for engineering drawings and should be used.

I'm curious... does the software take into account the number of features to be dimensioned per view when determining view scale, or just the part envelope size? I can see how it would be great for simpler parts, but it seems questionable for more complex parts.
I'm all for standard scales, but it seems to be less of an issue if all of your prints are 11"x17".
