Pressure Rating Rubber Gaskets

Pressure Rating Rubber Gaskets

Pressure Rating Rubber Gaskets

(OP)
In the water and waste water industry ribber insertion gaskets are common place. I am seeking a standard or reference that defines the pressure rating of this type of material used with a flat face flange.

RE: Pressure Rating Rubber Gaskets

I've looked at a number of articles on gasket sealing and don't find anything that links sealing pressure exclusively to gasket materials including rubber. The determination of gasket sealing pressure capabilities involves compression pressures affected by Modulus of Elasticity of the material, gasket spring constant, boltup forces, flange rotation and flange spring constant. An apt article showing how to calculate these parameters is by Robert H. Swick,"How Much Pressure Will the Gasket Take?", Machine Design, Nov. 24, 1977, pp. 86-89. I suspect that such equations may be found in gasket manufacturer's brochures (perhaps on the web) and in good machine design textbooks.

RE: Pressure Rating Rubber Gaskets

stanier, The first place you might want to check is, "Non-Metallic Flat Gaskets for Pipe Flanges, American National Standard, ASME B16.21" American Society of Mechanical Engineers, New York, 1992.

Playing the game of gaskets, gaskets, gaskets! What's available, and will it work with the process medium at the given P/T?

Hope this helps, goodluck!
