Ashrae 2001 fundamentals,HVAC Load calculation

Ashrae 2001 fundamentals,HVAC Load calculation

(OP)
Hi all
I am following ashrae 2001 fundamental. There is an example given under chap 28(residential cooling and heat load calculation)which summarized is given in table 10 and 11. And here is the problem i dont know how they got the area of 3.1sqm and 1.2sqm for west glass and shading glass respectively. Can someone help me please.......and also is there any guide or example to teach us step by step how the load calculation. And by step by step i mean calculating area and all...........I am new to Hvac so would you please suggest me some reference to follow for the design.

Thank you in advance :)

RE: Ashrae 2001 fundamentals,HVAC Load calculation

I haven't looked at that specific problem, but the window size either is given (unless they forgot) or in practice you can measure.

RE: Ashrae 2001 fundamentals,HVAC Load calculation

some examples in those books may have small errors, not sure if this is a CLTD or RTS method example, but just follow the basic equations/fundamentals. In real world, you will most likely use some sort of software to do these calculations but it is important to get the right inputs in and understand the principles behind.

Can you copy the problem from the book then tell us why you couldn`t get the area calculation and where is the exactly point that you need a help for.

Hii
Actually i am recently working in a company and am hired as a intern for hvac engineer....its a small company that follows thumb rule like (A*65)/12000. There is not one for teaching so i have to learn it on my own....and also there is no software or any thing they use.....i tried to learn elite(chvac)on my own but could not find any tutorial for the software.....so i tried from the basic and started ashrae but could not follow it properly.....

And it is cltd method i guess.....any way i have attached document which contain problem and proposed solution in the book.....

And i am very thankful for your replies :)

RE: Ashrae 2001 fundamentals,HVAC Load calculation

Be sure to discuss with some Professional HVAC local contractors in that conditional area of peak weather conditions.

A handful of disgruntled customers could not heat their homes in Cleveland with gas furnace and boiler designs in the -8f to -16f areas, as some forgot 1994 was -15f in parts of Cleveland and -22f through 4 counties, all zone 5 and 6 5900- to -6600 deg days ( and more) , typically in NE OHIO, for the past 34 years.

We noted some variations by monitoring ground loop geothermal systems loop temperatures since 1980. Some with old-school sizing prior to MORE-STANDARDS CHANGED -2011, forgetting 1994, this past month, got "burned" by freezing in with high electric and backup fuel compensation for the ground-in-accurate loading calculations of Earth-Coupled Loops.

So, another one working for a Mechanical contractor as the sole "Expert" - You're not an intern, you're the only engineer. What kind of engineering is this? use only rule of thumb? no one to teach an intern? tried the free Elite software cause the company would not buy software?

I feel your pain though, you have gone through great length to type your question and post it, sorry, just too much my friend, no one can give you a formal course on this site.

Good luck - You really need it.

RE: Ashrae 2001 fundamentals,HVAC Load calculation

cry22 gave good advice and shame on your employer. At minimum they should provide you with better material, some courses etc. If you can, get a more updated ASHRAE, don't learn from 2001 when 2013 is available.

I feel for you, and we can give you some advice. I wouldn't get stuck on the example problem, it may just be wrong in the book. Important is you understand what the calculations do. Look here, get the resources listed (and your company may have to spit out some money if they want you to design. I (and probably most people here) buy a $200 book, or soem other resource all the time. it is just the cost of doing business. HVAC is a very wide field, no one understands it all.

Typically we use a software, but it is very important you understand what it does, so you are on the right path doing the examples.
