ALE adaptive meshing

ALE adaptive meshing

ALE adaptive meshing

(OP)
Hello to all,

I'm a beginner in ABAQUS and I'm trying to simulate micromilling in 2D on ABAQUS (6.10). Since it has large deformations and loss of material I opted using ALE adaptive meshing on the workpiece. I created the domain, but I'd like to create a Eulerian boundary region(line in this case of 2D), where the mesh is near the tip of the tool, so the material can flow through the mesh to avoid excessive deformation) and a Lagragian boundary region on the rest. To do that I created ALE adaptive mesh constraints. The Spatial adaptive mesh constraint is the major problem, there's conflict because of the nonadaptive nodes, and I don't know how I can exclude these nodes from the constraint. I'm not familiar yet with the input file to program anything, but I'm willing to learn and try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your time.

I believe I have understood the problem, but now it's about the results: in each frame there's not the moviment of the workpiece (it has the boundary condition velocity). On the first 10 frames there's no moviment, and suddenly, on the next frame, the tool appears in the middle of the workpiece. Then, the tool appears at the beginning of the workpiece, like it didn't move at all and the elements that were ripped before appear in grey coloring. Anyone knows what's happening? If it's a software problem, computer problem or the it's user (me)?

Thank you for your attention.

RE: ALE adaptive meshing

Hello, although I do not understand your current problem I am also experiencing difficulties creating a 2D orthogonal cutting simulation in Explicit. In particular, I wish to specify a eulerian mesh domain near the cutting edge but am unsure how to do this. Thank you in advance for your help!
