Hi,
I have been trying to find guidelines on how to evaluate reaction forces for DANFLO type pressure safety valves which release the fluid in the same linear direction downstream upon activation.
I tried to contact the supplier but of no avail.
Appreciate any feedback here.

RE: Reaction Force from Discharge of linear Danflo type PSV's

Steady state will be around (Upstream pressure - downstream pressure) x Cross-sectional area

I believe that there would be one more item to the equation proposed by BigInch and that is momentum of the fluid upon the rapid release from the SV. Take a look at your statics and dynamics textbook on fluid flow exerting forces on the system containing the flow and momentum will be addressed.

Of course. That's why I said steady state. Following typical dynamic design principles, one should consider multiplying steady state, or static loads by at least 2.

OK!

It's good that you cleared it up though.

Thanks guys - this approach seems quite logical.
