pin connected components (steel)

pin connected components (steel)

I have found a thread regarding the pin conected componets: http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=131763 which gives me almost all the information I need.

I am assessing a similar component (existing) and the geometry of the connected pieces does not comply with Table 3.9 of EC3 (BS EN 1993-1-8). Could somebody please clarify if American or other codes define the geometry of the connected pieces to a simlar level of detail, and if so what is the limiting (minimum) value for the "width" of the plate (from the edge of the pin hole to the edge of the connected piece) in the direction of the applied force (dimension "a" in EC3).

Thanks in advance.

RE: pin connected components (steel)

See
AISC 360-10 2010 Specification for Structural Steel Buildings - Section D5
ASME BTH-1–2011 - Design of Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices - Section 3-3.3
I'm sure there are others, but these are two that I have used in the past.
