Storage Tank Plate Shop Drawing Symbol

Storage Tank Plate Shop Drawing Symbol

Storage Tank Plate Shop Drawing Symbol

(OP)
While reviewing some old (1969) storage tank rolled plate shop drawings, I came across a symbol in the bill of materials that I haven't seen before. It is a superscript capital M with an F down and to the right of it. The right, vertical leg of the M attaches to the top of the vertical part of the letter F. The symbol is followed by two dimensions in parenthesis. The dimensions correspond to one of the rolled pieces of plate, but are slightly different than the nominal dimensions shown on the drawing.

Does anyone know what this MF symbol means?

(Now that I just reread that sentence, I chuckled, but you know what I mean...)

Thanks

RE: Storage Tank Plate Shop Drawing Symbol

Possibly "made from", as in cutting an exact plate size from some nominal size slightly larger? Seen as "M/F" also
Combining the two letters was done with "Wide Flange" and "PLate".

RE: Storage Tank Plate Shop Drawing Symbol

Yes, looks like that's a sketch plate (odd shaped plate per the drawing) and "Made From" that size rectangular plate.
CF = cut from, CW = cut with. The PL symbol is "plate".

RE: Storage Tank Plate Shop Drawing Symbol

What's 'do'? Do Over?

RE: Storage Tank Plate Shop Drawing Symbol

do. is like repeat or ditto... or "

It looked silly putting that in parentheses...
