Material selection

Material selection

Material selection

(OP)
I received a question from our project engineering group on valve material of selection. we have a Valve shop certified to tear down valves, re-seat, and rebuild valves. The vendor specified "throw away" valves, such as PFA lined valves. It would be advantageous for us to utilize a valve material that allows us to rebuild them to minimize total cost of ownership.

The request is as follows.

"I would like to request your help to select the correct materials of construction for 3 control valve applications (NaCl, HCl, Caustic ~25-35% concentration). We're currently looking at the following options offered by the supplier:
1. Plastic line (PFA)
2. Stainless Steel
3. Hastelloy C
We're looking for help to determine if one of the metallic valve options will provide adequate service life so we are not forced into using the "throw away" plastic lined valves. "
