Energy balance around a batch distillation re-boiler

Energy balance around a batch distillation re-boiler

Energy balance around a batch distillation re-boiler

(OP)
Hello Guys. I'm really confused about how to predict the latent molar
heat for a methanol/water mixture and then from there to use
energy balance around the boiler in order to get both the liquid and
vapour flow rates ?

The information I have is:

The boiler duty
The composition and temperature of the mixture on each tray ( including reboiler)
Pressure drop

The equipment is a batch distillation column made of 4 plates. Total reflux.

Anyone could help me with that ?
I've attached a file explaining the methodology. Thanks guys

This appears to be a student posting.

You are judged not by what you know, but by what you can do.

RE: Energy balance around a batch distillation re-boiler

I agree that is appears to be a student posting. The most annoying thing is that it deals with distillation of a water-methanol mixture rather than the much more entertaining and useful water-ethanol mixture.

Distillation Design by Kister is an excellent reference for anyone interested in this subject.

RE: Energy balance around a batch distillation re-boiler

In any good ethanol-water distillation though, you want to make sure you get the methanol-ethanol-water distillation right, at least if you want to keep your vision. :)
