Does anyone know of a lab in Canada or USA that could perform some wear resistance tests on a few copper based alloys ?

Thanks

RE: Looking for lab to conduct wear resistance tests

Is the wear experienced in service due in some part to erosion?
"Results" of a test method using abrasion can be very misleading.
The outfit I worked for made a bunch of material decisions doing that and some of the results were di$appointing.

RE: Looking for lab to conduct wear resistance tests

Tmoose, that's a good point. I think the type of testing desired would more correctly be described as "wear rate" testing, rather than "wear resistance" testing. "Wear resistance" is subjective, while "wear rate" can be quantified.

The main problem is finding a lab that could perform a Galling Test. Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

RE: Looking for lab to conduct wear resistance tests

dshore, have you contacted any of the suggestions listed above yet to see if they will be able to perform your testing?

I saw her work on carbide a few years ago and was impressed.

FP Innovations in Canada does a lot of this but the FP stands for Forest Products so they are limited.

These guys build the machines (pin/disc) used for wear or abrasion testing. Might be worth giving them a call.

Good luck.

Which ASTM galling tests are you looking for ? I do not have very successful experience with ASTM Galling test. You may want to consider developing your own test for your own application.
