Pole slip protection

Pole slip protection

Hi all,

could you please someone explain how pole slip protection works? Is there any difference between pole slip and out of step protection or is it just a different name?

RE: Pole slip protection

Have a look at Chapter 17 of Alstom's Network Protection & Automation Guide. The whole book is well worth downloading, and it is remarkable that a work of this depth is available free of charge. You need to register to download it from Alstom but there are numerous places on the web where you can get it without registration.

The book looks very helpful, thanks for that! Do you know any other companies providing pole slip protection relay except Alstom? I have found an ABB relay. But I guess there must be more of them.

RE: Pole slip protection

GE's G60 relay has it and probably some of their simpler ones too
ABB have at least two relay familys (one Swiss, one Swedish) which have pole slip protection
Siemens

RE: Pole slip protection

GE Multilin G60, SEL 700G, Baler BE1-11g are all multifunction generator relays with the 78 function.

I can't remember the Siemens or ABB model right now.

The Basler BE1-40Q loss of excitaiton relay can also be used to protect agaisnt pole slipping caused by under excitation, or VAR flow into the machine.

RE: Pole slip protection

Alstom/SE Micom P34x terminals
Siemens 7UM terminals.
ABB REG670/650 terminals

Pole slip , out of step are same functions.
