High Performance Blower Foundation

(OP)
I am working on a foundation for a high performance blower. The method I used to design this thing uses several graphs - one of which estimates "deflection" based on soil type (which is somewhat vague). Because of the high rpms of the blower and stringent vibration criteria, I need to found on "gravel" per the chart. I have never designed a footing to be cast on gravel, and I don't like the idea.

The paper is entitled "Don't Gamble on Machinery Foundations". Found it on slideruleera's page:

Has anyone ever founded a footing on gravel? If so, what do you specify for compaction criteria?
