Outdoor rated pipe plug RTD?

Outdoor rated pipe plug RTD?

Outdoor rated pipe plug RTD?

(OP)
Hello,

New to temperature sensing. Any help is much appreciated...

I have a pipe 23ft (~7m) in the air with fluid flowing through it. I would like to thread a temperature sensor into a pipe tee to be able to read fluid temperature. The signal will then run to a data taker 180ft (~55m) away.

I would like to use something like this...

http://www.omega.com/pptst/RTD-NPT.html

The only problem is that the above part is not outdoor rated. The part of the sensor not in the pipe will be exposed to desert environmental conditions (Sun, rain, wind, etc).

1) Are there any companies that make OUTDOOR RATED pipe plug temperature sensors? I would prefer not to have to run a lot of conduit if any at all...

2) I've also seen this but it needs conduit unless I can find outdoor rated extension wire...

Any help or guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks,
E

RE: Outdoor rated pipe plug RTD?

There are tons of outdoor temperature sensors. You've found one above. Try bapihvac.com, kele.com (disclosure, I am a contractor for Kele).

We normally use conduit outdoors, there's a mechanical protection advantage. If you want bare cable, get one that's jacketed with UV stabilized PVC. Mount your sensor box so that condensation drains away from the box and put a drip loop in your cable first thing out of the box.

Just call one of those three companies, tell 'em what you want, and buy your cable separately. I'm pretty sure that Automation Direct also sells the cable.

Best to you,

Goober Dave
