Hole size limitation in the AISI

Hole size limitation in the AISI

Hole size limitation in the AISI

Is there a standard that limit hole size and distance of hole to edge for cold-formed steel columns?

RE: Hole size limitation in the AISI

Of course, you have to design the connections for whatever loads and conditions exist. I don’t have the latest eds. of those codes, so I can’t give you chapter and verse, but there most certainly should be some guidance on edge distance, end distance, vs. hole size, fastener type, load size and orientation, etc. If you’re doing this kind of design it would behoove you to become familiar with the AISI codes, so look around.

RE: Hole size limitation in the AISI

There are no explicit hole size restrictions. Edge distance is 1.5d and hole to hole dimension is 3d minimum, the same as AISC.

ajh1, do you recall the specific section for edge distance and hole to hole distance?
