CATIA Export issues

CATIA Export issues

(OP)
Okay I'm sorry for the shameless first post that asks a question, but I am pulling my hair out trying to find an answer..

I normally dont use Catia at work, but I am in a situation where a customer has sent us some Catia files. Our CAM software needs ideally a Step file to import.

I have opened the file from the customer it is in the format of "NAME.CAT.NC.model"
I thought it would be as simple as going to File>save as then selecting *.STP and done the problem is Save and Save As are greyed out so I am unable to perform this task.

I am completely in a bind, as I have 28 models to import and a boss breathing down my neck if I cant get it done.

any help appreciated

John

Oh we have Catia V5R19 incase it is important

it is very important. As .model files are actually V4 files not V5!

Meaning you can open them but not modify them with CATIA V5.

What you need to do is translate all your files into V5 format first then write them as a STP file.

Check you're online doc for translation of V4 -> V5 you do have a batch utility for that.

Thanks allot for your reply! I am looking now how to translate the files from V4 to V5. Now I know what's wrong I stand half a chance of putting it right

RE: CATIA Export issues

You will also need an ST1 license in order to save the files off as STEP.

All converted to *.CatPart and all saved as STEP. took me a little while but I've learnt something new
