Embedment of laterally loaded singe pile

Embedment of laterally loaded singe pile

(OP)
Dear Colleagues:

I need to evaluate an admissible lateral load on a steel mono pile that will be used as a mooring dolphin for large ships. I set it up in Lpile software. The exposed height is about 55 ft,and the embedment into the soil is 30 ft. (85 total pile length)What is the criteria in order to determine that the pile has adequate embedment?
Should the pile extend certain depth below maximum moment?
Should the pile extends to position not to exceed certain displacement?

At certain lateral loads values, the pile has a displacement of about 0.5 inches at the tip, which I am not sure whether it would be permanent or not? I believe there should be a criteria to determine what is the suitable pile embedment into the soil with respect to moment and/or deflection. The pipe pile diameter is 6 ft and 1.875" inches wall thickness.

Thanks for your comments.

Thanks FixedEarth!

What is the title of the section that you are referring to? It seems that I have access to an older version (1st edition).
The page numbering could be different..
Thanks again!
