How to attach a cover to a pipe?

How to attach a cover to a pipe?

How to attach a cover to a pipe?

(OP)
Hi i am going to make a pressure vessel for 3 bar, and I haven't been working with pipes before. I have found a pipe and a cover, see the picture below.

My question is how do I join the items together; seems hard since the cover and the pipe has the same diameter. Do I chamfer the profile and weld a bevel butt? or do I use any extra items to join them together? Like welding something on the outside?

RE: How to attach a cover to a pipe?

Find a qualified welder to weld em together using a qualified WPS and you should be good. Not that difficult.

RE: How to attach a cover to a pipe?

Conventional method would be to bevel both edges and butt weld them together.

RE: How to attach a cover to a pipe?

The phrase " I am going to make a pressure vessel for 3 bar, and I haven't been working with pipes before" does not exactly fill me with confidence. If this is 3 bar with gas then the consequences of failure could be significant. Depending where you are in the world, if you get it wrong you can be criminally liable, never mind otherwise.

If you're going ahead with this with what appears to be quite a low level of experience and knowledge, I would strongly recommend your design and construction is reviewed by a competent engineer.

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way
