Determination of penalty radiography

Determination of penalty radiography

Determination of penalty radiography

(OP)
Dear All,
is there any guideline in ASME Section I to determine number of penalty radiography to be taken if the joint fails in spot radiography? Or it is left to the agreement between manufacturer & purchaser?

Kindly reply.

Alok

RE: Determination of penalty radiography

PLease advise where in ASME Section 1 Spot Radiography is applicable ?
I only have the 2004 Edition so it may be in a later edition (though I find it hard to understand where you would do spot radiography in a boiler)

DD

RE: Determination of penalty radiography

There is no spot radiography in ASME Section I (2013 Edition). You probably meant ASME Section VIII, Div 1.

RE: Determination of penalty radiography

The required volumetric examnination is specified in PW-11 in Section I. Whenever radiography is required by Section I, it is full (over the full length of L.S or C.S butt welds).
In Section I you have no choice like spot as you find in Section VIII-1 or Section VIII-2.

RE: Determination of penalty radiography

123 is referring to spot after rt.1 fails. My advise is that if it fails in several locations the weld is bad and should consider cut and reweld it completely. As per spots seral times is okay but why having the same welder, same spot over and over. Usually it get worse.
