Gasket/Flange Torque Calculating Software/Application

Gasket/Flange Torque Calculating Software/Application

(OP)
Thanks In advance for any recommendations provided.
Can anyone recommend a user friendly and effective software to use to determine torque or tensioning requirements for flanges considering the gasket-flange material and geometry?

Any information would be of great help. Thank You!

RE: Gasket/Flange Torque Calculating Software/Application

First of all, I would advise you to do the calcs yourselves. That is THE best way to get familiar with the codes and rules, and make sure you know what youre doing.
Especially for ASME VIII-1 App. 2 flanges its not that difficult to make a calculation sheet. We use our own own made in excel.

If your design is to e.g. EN 1591-1, I would suggest you get familiar with the code to get some basic understanding, but in the end, buy software, as that specific code is too difficulty (IMHO) to be modeled in MS Excel.
TEMES fl.cal may be a good piece of software for EN 1092-1 flanges. I dont have experience with this software, but you can read some explanations in this topic.

RE: Gasket/Flange Torque Calculating Software/Application

Most of the hydraulic torque wrench and tensioner manufacturers have such programs available. Some are easier to use than others, most are fairly reliable. I also tend to check every calculation myself, I'm just that way. Also, they do tend to be very optimistic about their 'K' (bolt lubricity factors - as opposed to real world applications with rusty/pitted/galled flange backfaces).

For an example, go to websites for Hydratight, SPX, TenTec, HyTorc, or whomsoever you get your tooling from.

Good Luck
Rick
