Showing hidden components in Section Cut View
Showing hidden components in Section Cut View
(OP)
Hi All.
I'm having the following issue.
I have placed a section cut from an assembly on my drawing and in that view I have set a component (Pinkish Color) to Non Sectioned. (See attached image)
The component in question has been mounted with an array of bolts. These bolts I want to show in the section cut as well.
But because they are hidden by the section cut itself, I cannot make them visible again.
Does anyone know of a workaround? Or am I looking at an ER?

Tried that, but with no success. The components which are on the "other side" of the section line (not in view Direction) I cannot make visible.

I created a small movie (attached) with an example showing what I mean...

Yes...both options were set.

RE: Showing hidden components in Section Cut View
Sorry i may be missing your point but it does not seems like a bug to me. I checked it in NX9 and the result is same. I cannot control the visibility of components in a section view using SHOW COMPONENTS IN VIEW and even if it should have...i think these should be only those which are originally shown in the section (since the four screws were not a part of the section view so they will not appear after making the section view non-sectioned).
The option of applying NON-SECTIONED status to components in a section view ideally should not be applied to every component otherwise i would have used a simple projected view even.
Do let me know if i am wrong.

RE: Showing hidden components in Section Cut View
I never stated it was a bug. I was just wondering if this might be worth an Enhancement Request. or if there is a workaround.
Attached picture might make it a bit easier to understand.
On the left:
A section cut is made as I want to show on the drawing. Components nrs 1,2 and 3 are sectioned.
On the right:
Component nr 2 is made non sectioned. The view will only show the bolts which were part of the section view. The other ones in the array are hidden. I want to show these in this view as well. As I am now showing component nr 2 as a whole I also want to see all bolts which are used to mount this.
The movie example, I attached earlier was just to show the procedure I followed. I created another small assembly to make it easier to show.
It isn't the intention to create a section view first and then make ALL components non sectioned again.

RE: Showing hidden components in Section Cut View
I guess since the bolt themselves never got physically sectioned so probably that is the reason why their visibility is not controled .But I surely get your point and as of now I might have considered using a PMI section view for getting this result.(off course depending on PMI license availability.)
But still let us wait for some expert comment or suggestion on this.
Have a good day.

CODE --> JohnRBaker
The issue is not that the bolts aren't sectioned. I am not trying to add a non section status to the bolts( they already had that status from the beginning) .... The issue is that because component 2 was sectioned, the Bolts which were in the area removed by the cut I am not able to bring back when applying the non sectioned status to component2...
Having to buy a license to be able to use PMI is a bit overdone in my opinion...
