Special Inspections - Small Expansion

Special Inspections - Small Expansion

Special Inspections - Small Expansion

(OP)
I am dealing with small building remodel design. Basically adding an overhead door. Site area 20’x11’. Is anyone aware of such a code clause which may forego the need of special inspections for a small additions projects?

Thanks,

RE: Special Inspections - Small Expansion

When have special inspections become a requirement for projects?
I thought it was up to the EOR of the building inspector.

RE: Special Inspections - Small Expansion

The code states a minimum area requirement, it should be under the exceptions section of Special inspections in the IBC.

Sorry don't have it handy to point to exact location

It talks about exception for projects of small nature leaving the decision to EOR. Does not give the hard square footage to consider a project to be small.

RE: Special Inspections - Small Expansion

You made me look it up. And I confirm that the IBC is not specific. It says that they are req'd if that plans must have an A/E Seal. It seems that my local jurisdiction has a statement of special inspections form that we must use and it has a 'Required base on Group and Area) Mercantile must be 5000 sq ft.

Sorry for the confusion, it seems like it is your decision and the BCO.

RE: Special Inspections - Small Expansion

my experience is that you are at the mercy of the local jurisdiction.
