How can I draw a line aligned with an edge or surface?

How can I draw a line aligned with an edge or surface?

How can I draw a line aligned with an edge or surface?

(OP)
I am running NX8. In previous versions I used to be able to draw a line at a midpoint of a channel and it would run parallel with an edge until I picked a stop point. For example I have engraving text on a dumb body that manufacturing needs to cut. What I want to do is draw a line in-between the two surfaces and have it be parallel to the edge until I pick the stop point. Any ideas?

Is this in a sketch or are you using the Insert -> curve -> line command?

Sorry. Insert curve command.

Try using...

Insert -> Curve -> Lines and Arcs -> Line Point-Parallel...

The problem with the lines an arcs command is that I can't pick the point as a centerline. This is going to be a centerline for the cutter to follow.

Can you provide at least a picture of what you're attempting? And if what you say is true about the way 'Lines and Arcs' is working how is that you managed to do this prior to NX 8.0 since picking whatever sort of mid-point that you've alluded to hasn't changed if you were creating any sort of line object?

OK, I think I see what you're doing, but why are saying that you can't do that in NX 8.0? We haven't removed the 'Basic Curves' function, it's right where it's always been (try using a Role "with full menus").

Figured it out. Had to go to the insert curve- basic curves to get there instead of insert curve- line.
