Structural Design of Steel Cased Concrete Mini Piles

Structural Design of Steel Cased Concrete Mini Piles

Structural Design of Steel Cased Concrete Mini Piles

(OP)
Hi,

I am looking for design guidance for steel cased reinforced concrete mini piles. The info I need is for the design of the pile itself and not in relation to its interaction with the ground.

The piles are pretty standard here and a generally a 220mm diameter case (3mm wall) with a reinforced concrete core. The core typically has 1 central 16mm bar and the pile is grouted using 30N/mm2 concrete.

If the ground is capable of providing lateral restraint to the pile I would have assumed you could design this as a short reinforced concrete column (say 3m long) and ignore the casing. Is there an issue given we have only 1 bar and not a cage or can it be assumed the casing will make up for this?

If anyone has a reference for a design guidance document or example that would be great.

Thanks for any help.

Vinny
