We are about to construct block paving chevron signs on one of our roundabouts. Can someone tell me what concrete charcoal blocks are and what the is the purpose of using them. I would be most grateful for a detailed and speedy response.

RE: Chevron Roundabout Central Island

Never heard of them. Are project specifications unclear or incomplete? Are you sure it's not charcoal-colored concrete block?

RE: Chevron Roundabout Central Island

I would agree with ACtrafficengr. They're likely just the ones which make up the black chevrons when creating the roundabout layout to diagram 515.2 of the TSRGD.

Well I have to admit that I took the descriptive term from a roundabout drawing. I guess they should be charcoal-colored concrete blocks. Can you say why they are used as the last course of blocks?

RE: Chevron Roundabout Central Island

Looking at the diagram in TSRGD, I suspect it's just to make the white blocks stand out, especially against the sky, and create more of a 'sign' effect.
