Fillet Weld WPS Qualification with Butt Weld

Fillet Weld WPS Qualification with Butt Weld

Fillet Weld WPS Qualification with Butt Weld

(OP)
Dear all,

I checked the API 1104 but couldnt find anything explains this directly. Normally in ASME Sec.IX when you ran a PQR with butt weld you are qualified to fillet welds also.

But in API 1104 in essential variables section code only states joint design like V to U bevel. Is there any other section that I missed explains this. Because its kinda extreme to make a specific WPS just for fillet.

Thanks.

RE: Fillet Weld WPS Qualification with Butt Weld

thandion,
It may seem extreme but that is what you have to do - see Clause 5.7 & 5.8.
Also reference 5.3.2.4 & 5.4.2.3,
Regards,
DD
