since it will be used in U stamp Heat-Exchanger , Shall expansion joint Manufacturer require U stamp

or
same can be wived,If Expansion Joint manufactured under provision of UG-11.

In my opinion Expansion joint are welded components and require to be manufactured by an U stamp holder with a partial data report.

mechyp, if a bellows (thin) joint, it will most likey be furnished complete, with Partial Data Report (U-2). If a flanged and flued (thick) joint, it will most likely be furnished as two (or more) F&F heads with PDR, with further fabrication by your organization. I've never seen either one furnished under UG-11.

Mike

Dear Mike/Aminati

As per UG-11(e) Second Sentence.
" In lieu of the requirement in UG-11(d)(4), the Certificate holder may subcontract to an individual organization not holding an ASME certificate standard pressure parts that are fabricated to a standard othre than an ASME product standard provided all the following conditions"

my interpretation that if my organization comply conditions UG-11(e)(1)to(10)then no need PDR and also ASME Certified Manufacture.

correct me if i'm wrong.

Thanks

mechyp, complying with UG-11(e)(1)to(10) means that YOUR organization assumes all responsibilities as the Certificate Holder. I am not certain that either type of joint would be considered as a "standard" part however.

Mike

You may have the smls or mfdwelded tube or pipe formed and then you do the welding of the flanges.you may talk to your AI for advise of what he will accept. I'm sure there are piping MFRS who hold ASME CERTs. Who already make certified ASME parts. Good luck.
