proper nomenclature - WHRSG or WHRB

proper nomenclature - WHRSG or WHRB

(OP)
Dear Engineers,

I found at book (Boilers for Power and Process K. Rayaprolu) below statements:

Waste Heat Recovery Generator - it's name for recovery system installed on Power Plants
Waste Heat Recovery Boiler - it's name for recovery system installed on industrial plants like refinery, paper plant etc...

Before I've used interchangeably. Is that correct? Or I must use separately above mentioned definition?

Regards
Michal

RE: proper nomenclature - WHRSG or WHRB

To me, a boiler is fired equipment, whereas a steam generator is not "fired" in the literal sense of the word; i.e., a WHRSG typically uses hot flue gas to make steam.

RE: proper nomenclature - WHRSG or WHRB

The term I have heard most often is "HRSG"...... Heat Recovery Steam Generator"

This is the term used by the people who fabricate and sell these devices...

RE: proper nomenclature - WHRSG or WHRB

Yes HRSG Heat Recovery Steam Generator is the term. I agree a boiler is a fired vessel. In a paper mill(where I work) we have a Kraft Recovery Boiler which is a fired vessel of special design.
