AABC "Engineers"

AABC "Engineers"

AABC "Engineers"

(OP)
Just noticed.

Associated Air Balance Council certifies individuals as "Test and Balance Engineers" without an engineering degree and exam.

Guess I wasted my time at Drexel to get my EIT and PE.

RE: AABC "Engineers"

Quote (AABC website)

Test and Balance Engineer (TBE)
> All AABC member agencies must have at least one certified TBE on staff. The TBE is ultimately responsible for overseeing technical operations of the company; reviewing and certifying test and balance reports; and providing supervision and training of technicians.
> To be eligible for certification as a TBE, the applying individual must have a minimum of eight (8) years test and balance experience. Applicants with engineering degrees will receive four (4) years credit toward the experience requirement.
> The TBE examination is a rigorous, 8-hour written examination that tests applicants' knowledge and technical competence in air and water balance, sound and vibration testing, fan and pump laws, instrumentation and psychometrics.
> Candidates who pass the examination are issued a TBE certification number and Annual Certificate.
> Certification is renewable on an annual basis, and is only valid while employed by an AABC member firm.

So you get 4 years experience credit. Your PE allows you to stamp, while the cert does not. Presumably, one could ask the PE police whether the usage of "Test and Balance Engineer" constitutes a violation of the PE laws.

RE: AABC "Engineers"

I worked as an air balance tech.

AABC is a private accreditation, thus not equivalent to a PE, which is a public license.

Using title "Engineer" is probably not illegal because AABC and NEBB balancers aren't typically "holding themselves out to the public".

The experience requirements are actually quite similar to those required in Wisconsin to qualify for the PE exam without a degree.

Drexel should introduce reading comprehension into their program.
