timer relay omition

(OP)
In some escalators use timer relays only for upward direction. There are no timer relays for the downward direction and I wonder why.
The escaltor works fine going downwards but cannot continue going upwards.I checked the starting current and found that its ok. Now I am planing thereverse the phasing so that it can go up when switched on downward and the timer relays will never be used. (I saw some problem with the timers.) Is ok to run the escalator upwards without using these relay timers?
pls help

thank you.
