I've a pneumatic plug that it's conic (face tappared).
I can't add a conic thread to a conic face.
Why ?
Solutions ?

Thank you...

Using NX 8 and TC9.1

Helix,
Sweep along guide,
Substract?

Sorry,
I would like to add the command 'Thread' on conical face....a pneumatic plug imported form a website.

Thank you...

RE: Conic Thread

Dont think its possible, hence:

Helix,
Sweep along guide,
Substract.

RE: Conic Thread

There is no specific tool, but you can create one with a few steps.

- Create a cylinder with draft
- Create a helix with correct pitch, but diameter bigger than the cone's largest diameter
- Use V-Sweep along the helix and create a horizontally-constrained line between the intersection point of the helix and the outer face of the cone (intersection curve)
- Use Intersection Curve between the two to create the helix

The V-Sweep step is a suggestion - can probably be done many ways (e.g. Law Extension?)

RE: Conic Thread

Hi cubalibre,
As far as i know it is not possible to create threads (using THREAD command) on a conical face but do you actually require a physical thread entity on the face ? Otherwise adding a PMI note on the face might do in your case (sorry i may not be understanding your exact requirement) if ok with you. This will also be reflected in drawings.
In case you need it for FEA then the aforementioned methods (by Khimani and Cris) will model the threads accordingly.
There has always been a debate on if we should really model the threads (excluding those created THREAD option) .... to me i could not see any objective other than a full blown FEA applied on the same.
But there are lot of things i am not aware of so in case i am missing anything please do let me know.
Best Regards
