Standards for cold forged aluminium components

(OP)
Hi folks,

I have been trying to locate a standard (ISO, DIN, BS etc...) for cold forged aluminium components.

I have had no success fo far, has anyone had a similar task & found anything i can use to add a note to my drawing?

thanks

Gareth

RE: Standards for cold forged aluminium components

There are no standards for the finished parts. You can specify the raw material using a standard such as BS EN 1301. You can then specify the final mechanical properties several different ways, such as using the -T6 values listed in BS EN 1301 or ISO 8839 (non-ferrous fasteners including some Al alloys). You can also specify hardness values, especially if the alloy is not heat treatable. You may want to consider specifying the acceptable grain flow pattern, e.g. no folds, no exposed end grains, etc.

RE: Standards for cold forged aluminium components

MIL-A-22771D (cancelled) listed a bunch of requirements "unless agreed upon by contractor and forging supplier" including UT for internal defects, and visual and dye penetrant testing after a surface etch is completed. As always the acceptance criteria are not spelled out and depend on stress level of the part.
