Clevis Hanger Multiple pipe hanger installation

Clevis Hanger Multiple pipe hanger installation

Clevis Hanger Multiple pipe hanger installation

(OP)
Dear all,

I have a pipe rack to be installed and pipe hangers are selected as Clevis hanger types;

There are several pipes to be installed and i need to know to install these Clevis hangers on the same pipe rack with seismic criteria.

How can i design the pipe rack with these type of hangers ?

Regards
Cem

RE: Clevis Hanger Multiple pipe hanger installation

cctrk,
Who asked you to do this? Go back to them and ask them how the clevis hangers work when seismic loading applies?

You need some form of lateral and longitudinal restraints - not just hangers!!!!!

That is right, thank you, i will apply restraints,

But my question is how to install multiple clevis hangers on the same rack with restraints; is it possible ?

if we install multiple of them, then what kind of restraints will be installed to the pipe rack ?

RE: Clevis Hanger Multiple pipe hanger installation

Go here and see many different types of Clevis Hangers.
https://www.google.com/search?q=Clevis+hanger+type...
Now which one are you using "on the same pipe rack"?

How many lines are you trying to support?
What are the sizes of these lines?
What are the individual maximum operating temperatures of these lines?
Are any of the lines insulated?
What is the thickness of the insulation?
Why are you saying you want to use Clevis Hangers?

RE: Clevis Hanger Multiple pipe hanger installation

There is a reason that a 'shoe' is the preferred support in pipe racks. Shoes can be guided - restrained from vertical or side-to-side motion easily and cheaply. With dangling your line in clevises, you will need a BUNCH of sway struts [possibly one at EVERY clevis]

RE: Clevis Hanger Multiple pipe hanger installation

cctrk,
This is an example of a Pipe Rack: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mkmccrary/6191457448/

As you can see, with this type of pipe rack you support the pipe from below (the ground) and have the ability to anchor the pipe from linear movement at one specific supports and guide (or restrain) transverse movement at other supports.
It is almost impossible to do either of these (anchor or guide) when supporting pipe from above via rod hangers and Clevis clamps.

Give us more information about what you are really trying to accomplish.
What are you hanging the Clevis supports from?

prognosis: Lead or Lag
