pitting of heat exchanger shell

pitting of heat exchanger shell

(OP)
How can I repair of shell pitting ?can I use welding and what's the procedure and what's the method of inspection and can rt used?

RE: pitting of heat exchanger shell

If the heat exchanger is and ASME pressure vessel, use the guidelines in NBIC Part 3 for repairs and alterations. The most economical repair procedure is dependent on a number of factors including material of construction, expense and availability of NDT contractors, working fluid, and quality of welding personnel. I recommend that you contact a firm or hire a consultant familiar with such repairs to find the most economical repair plan.

RE: pitting of heat exchanger shell

Unless the damage is highly localized you will probably find yourself replacing the shell.
Repairs to shells can be very painful.
